Sonoran Desert
Ethical Harvest in Sonora
We work exclusively with secretion obtained from wild toads released into their habitat, or with pharmaceutical-grade synthetic 5-MeO-DMT, to avoid putting pressure on the species.

What it is
The Bufo Alvarius lives in the Sonoran Desert and emerges with the monsoon rains. Its secretion, when dried and vaporized in minimal doses, produces a brief, oceanic, and direct experience of ego dissolution.
In our work, Bufo is always offered in an individual, one-on-one format, with two facilitators present in the room.
It is not a recreational experience. It requires specific preparation, cardiovascular and psychological evaluation, and a clear intention. It is not offered in isolation: always within a process of accompaniment.
The session lasts between 20 and 40 minutes, but it can completely reorder one's relationship with the ego, with the fear of death, with what we call the self.

History
Each medicine carries centuries — sometimes millennia — of living knowledge. Telling its story well is part of showing respect.
Prehistory
Rock carvings in the Sonoran Desert depict toad figures and altered states. The relationship between the Yaqui, Seri, and Comcáac peoples with this amphibian appears to predate written history.
1983–1984
Biologist Ken Nelson and psychopharmacologist Andrew Weil document the presence of 5-MeO-DMT in the Bufo Alvarius secretion. A new tradition is born upon an ancient root.
2010–2020
Its use spreads rapidly, with both light and shadow: cases of negligence, pressure on the species, insufficient training. The serious community responds with education, conservation ethics, and synthetic use.
Today at Chakana
We only work with secretion from wild toads that have been released, or with pharmaceutical synthetic 5-MeO-DMT. Never in groups. Always one-on-one, with medical evaluation and prior and post-session accompaniment.
The Journey of the Medicine
Every step is documented, lineage-supported, and verified. We do not work with medicine that we cannot trace back to its origin.

Laboratory · Analysis
Each batch is weighed, analyzed, and labeled. Nothing is offered without traceability, purity verification, and a participant record.
Weeks Prior
Medical, psychological, and spiritual evaluation. Intention is refined, breathing techniques are taught, and strategies for fear or resistance are established.
Private Room
A single inhalation. One facilitator supports the head, another oversees the room. Upon return: silence, gentle touch, water. In the following days: integration, writing, movement.
Documentary
Fragments recorded in the jungle, by the fire, and in the house. The full version is shared within the members' community.

Preparation, inhalation, return. Never alone.
What to Expect
Not for everyone
Each participant undergoes a medical and personal evaluation before accessing any medicine. If something doesn't fit, we say so.
